2000's And Onward
The Sims became a revolutionary simulation game. It is not the first of its kind but it became
the best selling computer game ever because of unique and easy controls compared to other simulations but mostly due to the high appeal to both male and female audiences.
2001 & 2002
In 2001 microsoft decided to join the video game console war with the introduction of the xbox. The xbox came with
hit games such as HALO: Combat Evolved.
In 2002, the army released a video game to help recruit new members and this started the appearence of more video games addressing policy and management issues.
The game that made gamers go bananas was a sequence of video games based on a gorilla called Donkey Kong.
One of the first games of the 1990's was Super Mario World.
With the 1991 release of Street Fighter II, many other companies started to follow the path of fighting-style games; such as,Mortal Kombat and Tekken.
DK Country, Wolfenstin 3D, Super Mario Kart, NBA Jam, etc.
The objective was to save a girl named "Pauline" by going up stories while Donkey Kong throws barrels at you. The character that the player plays as is Jumpman; later known as Mario.
The Hero of Legend from LOZ: Link To The Past, Oracle of Ages and Seasons and Link's Awakening has the most questing experience. He has ventured through 37 total dungeons.
Pong is one of the earliest arcade video games and the very first tennis arcade video game.Pong was manufactured by Atari
Particularly popular form its release date to present day, mainly because of how simple and it is. Pac-man is considered one of the classics.
This 3 year span was the most successful breakthrough because of the implementation of 3-Dimensional interacttive technology. This went along with consoles like the N64, PlayStation 1 and GameCube.
space invaders is a two dimensional game which a player controls a ship by moving horizontally across the bottom on the screen and shooting aliens.
In this game, 5 layers of bricks line the top third of the screen. A ball travels across the screen, bouncing off the top and the walls of the screen. When a brick is hit, the ball bounces back to the user.Breakout was developed and published by Atari
2004 - 2006
After the release of Mortal Kombat and Duke Nukem, many violent and controversial games were released, such as GTA, Shadow Warriors, Harvester, Leisure Suit Larry and Tomb Raider. Which oddly enough, sold more copies due to their popularity.
How it has evolved
Even though the objective of the game is the same, new modern technologies has caused it to change. When the game was released you would play pacman in an arcade but now you can play it on your computer at home and this went for many other video games.

As the years went on and the trove of games available on the platform increased, Valve implemented new features that solidified Steam’s role as the ultimate system for gamers. Steam Cloud provided a way to store and access game saves across multiple systems, while Steam Achievements helped PC gamers get some sort of parity with the Gamerscore metric popularized by the Xbox 360. Steam Community expanded upon the friends list and chatting system by establishing groups with group chats, and Valve even added voice-call support to the client.

2010 was an important year for Steam because the classic green skin was replaced with a more modern design that also acted as a starting point for the Mac and Linux clients that were released later that year. The UI change was followed by a slew of additional features like Steam Workshop , Big Picture mode, non-gaming applications, and more recently, Steam Greenlight .

Nintendo maintains its dominance of the handheld market with the Nintendo DS, an easy-to-use,
portable gaming system packed with two processors, two screens, multiplayer capabilities, and a stylus for the touchscreen. Great games like Super Mario Kart DS helped too.
Nintendo Entertainment System was the best selling console at its time with 43.4 million units sold. Some of the reasons why
Nintendo Wii gets gamers off the couch and moving with innovative, motion-sensitive remotes. Not only does Nintendo make gaming more active, it also appeals to millions of people who never before liked video games.
The final 2 years in the 1900's were some of the most memorable due to games like Metal Gear Solid, LOZ Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Yellow.

More than 10 million worldwide subscribers make World of Warcraft the most popular massively multiplayer online (MMO) game. MMOs create entire virtual universes for players and redefine how we play, learn, and relate to each other.
The game was released in 2004 but in 2008 was when the second expansion set came out “The Wrath of The Lich King” which inspired many more players to play, resulting in the game becoming the largest mmo and bringing the mmo genre into relevance in the video game industry.
Social games like Farmville and mobile games like Angry Birds shake up the games industry. Millions of people who never would have considered themselves gamers now while away hours playing games on new platforms like Facebook and the iPhone.
1998's-1999's brought about amazing 2-D games like Super Smash bros.,F-Zero X,Pokemon Yellow and Oddworld. There were also many great 3-D games like Pac Man World, WWF Attitude, Donkey Kong 64 and Unreal Tournament.
Even though it wasn't the first hand held game, Gameboy is what popularized hand held gaming. What made it so popular was the ease of use, good gameplay and long battery life. Some of the most popular games

The indie game movement comes of age with the tremendous popularity of Minecraft, the addictive brick-building game from Swedish developer Markus Persson "Notch".
Super Mario Bros. was the bestselling video game in the 80s with a whopping 40.24 million units sold!
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure becomes the first augmented-reality hit by letting players place plastic figures on a Portal of Power to zap characters into the game. Two years later Disney Infinity joins the ranks of toy-video game hybrids.
Sony comes out with PlayStation 4 and Microsoft comes out with the X-Box one starting another video game console war. The Wii U is excluded as not many cared about it. The war is still going even today in 2015. Even though the consoles are at war, we can all agree that PC gaming is superior to all consoles (solely based on specs).
