What is it? Culture Basic Definition of Culture Diversity: Celebration or Separation? Essential Question 2: The characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine (food), social habits (common patterns of behavior), music, arts, and clothing. Essential Question 1: How can diversity create a more united culture? Think-Pair-Share Kenneth Prewitt, former director of the U.S. Census Bureau, has said of the United States that “...we’re on our way to becoming the first country in history that is literally made up of every part of the world.” United States Since the United States is populated mostly by immigrants, the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country. Is our diversity a celebration of culture, or are we segregating ourselves? Do you have to give up (or compromise) who you are in order to fit in with a new group or culture? Diversity - Variety; a range of different things. Cultural Diversity - A variety of different cultures

Immigration - The process of moving to a new country or region with the intention (plan) of staying and living there.
