Solving Equations How do I know which term to use
first when solving an equation? 3x - 7 = -49 STEPS 1) Locate the side of the equation with the variable;
2) Determine if there is another term there other than the variable term;
3) If so, you must use the inverse operation of that term to move
it to the other side of the equation.
4) Then proceed with solving the resulting one-step equation by using the
inverse operation next to the variable to isolate the variable. 3x - 7 = -49
+ 7 + 7
3x = -42 3x = -42
x = -14
