Primary Carcinoma of the Fallopian Tube
Anatomy:
Stages:
Diagnosis:
- After looking at the images and her symptoms she was first diagnosed with an ovarian carcinoma
- With this in mind the treatment for ovarian cancer is surgery.
Ultrasound:
This is also where it helps to tell if it metastasized or affect the lymph nodes
Signs of PCFT:
- sausage shaped
- complex mass
- solid and cystic components
- papillary projections
- Also very common to see Hydrosalpinx
- this mean the tube is blocked distally and filled with serous fluid. Causes the sausage like appearance
Once the surgery was done the diagnosis was changed to PFTC morphologically
papillary serous type FIGO Stage 1A Grade I
Risk Factors:
- Postmenopausal
- Ages 50-65 most common
- Family History of cancer
- BRCA 1 Gene
Common Symptoms:
- Pelvic Pain
- Vaginal Bleeding
- Pelvic Mass
- Watery Discharge
Other Information about PFTC:
- It is the least common malignancy of the female reproductive system
- Accounts for about 1-2% of malignancies
- Most common kind is Adenocarcinoma
- Since it is so rare the correct diagnosis is not usually made till after surgery
- It highly mimics ovarian cancer
- Usually happens at the end of the tube
- When scanning it is important to look in the adenxa, usually found there.
CT: "Abdominopelvic CT scan showing Left ovarian
mass with solid cystic component."
7.6 x 6.2 cm
No Free Fluid
Treatment:
What is is?
- Also know as Tubal Cancer, and PFTC
- It is a "malignant neoplasm that originate from the Fallopian Tube"
- Surgery was suggested and underwent in this case.
- It was a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy
Grades:
Patient Signs/Symptoms:
GX: The tumor grade cannot be identified.
G1: Describes cells that look more like normal tissue cells (well differentiated).
G2: The cells are somewhat different (moderately differentiated)
G3: The tumor cells barely resemble normal cells (poorly differentiated)
G4: The cells do not look like normal cells (undifferentiated
