A movement whose goal is to help producers in developing countries get to a fair price for their products so as to reduce poverty, provide for the ethical treatment of workers and farmers, and promote environmentally sustainable practices
Free Trade
A system of trade between nations in which there are no special taxes on imports
Fair Trade Principles
Terms to Know
Trade Liberalization: involves removing barriers to trade between different countries and encouraging free trade (reducing tariffs, reducing/eliminating quotas, and/or reducing non-tariff barriers)
Managed-Trade Agreements: typically managed for the special interests in the advanced industrial countries
Bilateral Trade Agreements: give preference to certain countries in commercial relationships, facilitating trade and investment between the home country and the foreign country
Trade is supposed to be about the standards of living, but whose standards of living?
Double Standards?
