ROI: Research and Outreach Initiative, Hoffman Estates

Programming

Upon the conclusion of the agency-wide process of research, identification, outreach and evaluation in 2014, programming in 2015 will be determined to best meet the needs of individuals with disabilities within your community.

Evaluation

An evaluation of outreach activities and feedback from groups, families and individuals will be conducted at the end of 2014.

Evaluation will include an analysis of feedback received concerning:

1. Availability of programs/resources

2. Transportation concerns

3. Recreational needs of the community

Our Mission

It is the mission of NWSRA to provide outstanding opportunities through recreation for children and adults with disabilities.

This process provides NWSRA with the strategic direction to achieve the goal of meeting and exceeding the unique recreational needs and expectations of individuals within your community.

Outreach

Identification

In 2014, NWSRA has formed an Outreach Committee to plan and execute targeted outreach based on the areas and populations in need of increased NWSRA presence. The committee will engage and inform new groups, families and individuals about NWSRA services.

Through analysis of the demographic data, NWSRA will be identifying the geographic areas and populations in need of increased NWSRA opportunities in partner communities.

Emphasis of identification will be placed on the following characteristics to determine areas of weakness:

  • Geographical location of those served
  • Age of those served
  • Disability of those served
  • Current programming available in the partner community.

Demographics

SRA Survey Results

SRA Survey

Your Community

  • A statewide survey was conducted in 2013 using year-end 2012 data to determine the level of participation from individuals with disabilities in SRA programs in Illinois.
  • Of the 16 SRA's that participated, the survey determined the following:
  • SRA's reported .55% of the total population of each member district participated in SRA programs.
  • This means that 5.5 individuals per 1,000 is the statewide benchmark for SRA individuals served.
  • An average of .93% of the total population of NWSRA member districts participated in NWSRA programs, representing a .38% increase over the average SRA participation.
  • According to the US Census American Community Survey, 11% of individuals within Cook County have some type of disability.

Following a formula of active households divided by US Census Population:

  • The percentage of individuals served in your community by NWSRA equals .95%
  • This exceeds the statewide SRA average of .55% served
