CLIMATE CHANGE SOLUTIONS A reminder from last time... Climate change is related to extreme weather because... Climate change puts heat into the weather systems.
That speeds up the whole system and intensifies weather events. THERE IS EVIDENCE LINKING

an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate, and that may result from the greenhouse effect. In order to curb the effects of Global Warming we need to slow down the Green House Effect. SOLUTIONS TO GLOBAL WARMING! There are 2 levels of solutions: Personal level

Government level The Energy Revolution The principles of the Energy Revolution are: - Increase human well-being without fossil fuels.

- Fair energy access for all, including the 2 billion people left without power in our current fossil-fuel based energy system.

- Respect for natural limits: use no more resources the Earth can provide us and don’t emit more than the Earth and the atmosphere can take back (in particular CO2 emissions).

- Phase out dirty, dangerous fuels like coal and nuclear.

- Use proven, existing renewable energy. Two beneficial things that will come from the Energy Revolution are: -less CO2 emissions
-access to electricity in places that don't have any The Energy Revolution is already taking place! What can you do to help solve this problem? -Change your lifestyle (e.g. energy efficient light bulbs, shorter showers, recycling, etc.)
-Things like installing solar panels on your roof can make a difference
-Support renewable energy
-Join the Energy Revolution!!
-Encourage people you know to join as well!

Where change seems well underway, it probably won’t amount to much without major institutional/structural changes. Where change will be talked and talked about, and even enacted, but if the past is any teacher, such changes will not necessarily be hugely efficient or even sensible. Extreme Weather There are no direct solutions to extreme weather. Weather will always happen. Instead of preventing Extreme Weather we need to prepare. Everyone can be prepared for Extreme Weather from citizens to governments. As Citizens we need to prepare our families and houses for Extreme Weather events. Things we can do to prepare The government is doing many things to help stop global warming. They came up with a law called “The Clean Air Act.”

The Clean Air Act is making many companies change their products to decrease these problems. Part of the law says that you may not put a certain amount of pollutants in the air.

Some factories and corporations create to much volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), ozone-destroying chemicals (chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s), and related chemicals (such as CO2) into the air.
Now, almost all of these products have a label on them telling people what this product can do to the environment and many people. Hopefully, by 2015 all products listed on the Clean Air Act will have this label on them. 1) Prepare your Family
We need to know what we have to do if extreme weather hits. This includes, where the family would meet after a storm 2) Prepare our Houses
We need to make sure our homes are weather ready. This can be different depending on where we live. For example if you live in the north, you need to be blizzard ready. This might mean checking out the gutters to see if heavy snowfall would rip them right off the house, trimming branches on trees that hang over power lines or the roof) The government also need to be prepared to exreme weather events The need to make sure that help is avaible for everyone, during and after the storm. With out a plan exents can end up badly, like after Hurrican Katrina. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GLOBAL WARMING?? SO WHAT CAN THE GOVERNMENT DO TO STOP THE HEATING OF THE EARTH? -Stop using non-renewable energy for power plants

-Have taxes on non-renewable energy so renewable energy can catch up and compete

-Coal and nuclear energy should no longer be encouraged EVERYONE! Everyone is responsible for global warming because of all the greenhouse gases we produce, from driving a car to turning on a light bulb.

However, how much energy people use varies from person to person. Some important [stat]istics: Theres a 90 % chance that human activity is warming the planet and that average global temperatures will rise by another 1.5---5.8 degrees Celsius, depending on emissons! More than seven billion tonnes of CO2 are emitted globally each year by fossil fuels used for transport, industry and aviation. An additional 1.6 billion tonnes are emitted by change of land use, largely deforestation. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that climate change has already caused an additional 5,000,000 extra cases of severe illness a year. And by 2080, an estimated 200,000,000 people will be at risk from flooding and contaminated drinking water.
