About the Release Figure Methodoloy (RFM)
2003 with 10 pilot campuses
Determines the number of invitations issued by each chapter
1. Maximize the number of potential new members (PNMs) who ultimately affiliate with a women’s fraternity or sorority through recruitment.
2. Allow each PNM to methodically investigate realistic options and ultimately match with a chapter for which she has a preference among those options.
3. Enable each chapter to invite a sufficient number of PNMs to each event round to match to quota at the conclusion of recruitment.
* 85 - 95% of the PNMs are matched with their first preference on their membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement (MRABA) under RFM. (Generally)
* Placement of the average open house pool (OHP) of PNMs has grown to just over 80 % for all campuses compared with the old law of averages formula
* 79% of the OHP matched for 2013-2014 year
* 65 volunteer Release Figure Methodology (RFM) specialists
* A higher percentage of chapters pledge quota.
* PNMs who complete recruitment in good faith and maximize
their options are matched.
* Campuses achieve parity, which equals a stronger
* PNMs can focus on groups where they have a real
opportunity to pledge.
* Chapters can focus on PNMs they are interested in pledging.
RFM and Invitations
* Inviting fewer women than the carry figure issued, or “underinviting,” is discouraged.
* If a chapter underinvites by a significant amount, the RFM specialist will notify that chapter’s inter/national organization.
* It is, however, within the rights of each chapter to determine its own criteria for membership, and no chapter should be forced to invite women the group does not wish to affiliate, nor should it be penalized by the Panhellenic for doing so.
* Chapters MUST submit invitation lists and other requests for information in a timely fashion to the College Panhellenic.
* Submitting invitation lists late is not acceptable and affects the entire Panhellenic and RFM process.
* Chapters should be familiar with their internal scoring system to avoid late submission of data.
* With RFM, an initial quota estimate and a quota range is calculated using the size of the OHP, the number of chapters participating in recruitment and the Panhellenic’s historical recruitment retention rates.
* Following the preference or final event round for a campus, chapters are asked to submit their bid list.
* Campuses using ICS or Campus Director software are asked to submit only one list in ranked preference order. All PNMs who attend a chapter’s preference event round must be listed somewhere on the chapter’s submitted bid list.
* Quota is determined by mutual agreement of the FSA and the RFM specialist.
Importance of Flex Lists
* A flex list is actually two lists of PNMs — a plus list and a minus list.
* Are used to help optimize the invitations issued by all sororities.
* When are flex lists used?
* What if I don't want to turn in a flex list?
* What are the risks of not turning in my plus list and minus lists?
* What if I place legacies on a plus list or minus list?
* Using a proper recruitment format (maximum number of parties a PNM can attend each round) is vital to the success of RFM on any campus.
*In order for the RFM carry figures to work effectively, there should be an even (or close to even) release structure throughout the recruitment process.
* Our campus has experienced extension since our last formal recruitment, therefore, we consulted with our RFM to determine the new recruitment format
* NPC adopted a new automatic reset of total policy in October 2013
3 Options to Reset Total:
1. Average chapter size (ACS), rounded down to the nearest whole number
2. Median chapter size (MCS), such as the size of the fourth-largest chapter in a system with seven NPC groups
3. Largest chapter size, which is advantageous for small communities with 1-3 chapters
