Stopwatch Procedures: 1. Fill 3 beakers with 300 mL of water. 2. Place one beaker in the fridge for 10 minutes. 3. Leave one at room temperature. 4. Heat the water in the final beaker until boiling. 5. Place 9.9 grams of rock salt into the heated water and start the stopwatch. 6. Observe until all salt is dissolved. 7. Stop the stop watch and record observations and time into data table. 8. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for the cold water. 9. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for the water at room temperature. 10. Once you have finished recording the data, begin a lab report. Conclusions: In our lab we found that our hypothesis was true. The rate at which salts dissolves in the water can be controlled by the temperature of the water. We decided that the rock salt dissolves the fastest in hot water and the slowest in the cold water. I learned that different salts dissolve differently in varied temperatures. I also learned the you can control how fast salts dissolve into water. This applies to real-life situations because when baking different foods with salt and water you can speed up the process of the dissolving by heating it up or slow it down by cooling it. Possible errors: When conducting this lab we could have run into many possible errors. Some could have been putting different amounts of salt into each beaker, putting the salt into the water which was at a different temperature than what we had stated in our lab, maybe the water had some chemical in it or a substance that changed the amount of time it took for the salt to dissolve, or the salt could have been really old, changing the rate at which it dissoves.
