Blount (1500-1539) known as Bessie Blount. 1519 "Bessie" Blount gives birth to Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond the illegitimate son of King Henry VIII 1516 Queen Mary I "Bloody Mary" (1516 - 1558) born in Greenwich 1520 King Francois I of France meets King Henry VIII but fails to gain his support against Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. King Henry VIII becomes totally obsessed with Katharine's lady-in-waiting Anne Boleyn with whom he falls madly in love 1526 1529 King Henry VIII dismisses Lord Chancellor Thomas Wolsey for failing to obtain the Pope's consent to his divorce from Catherine of Aragon 1533 January 25th, King Henry married Anne Boleyn and is excommunicated by Pope Clement VII September 7th, Queen Elizabeth I, the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn, is born. 1536 January 7th : Katharine of Aragon dies at Kimbolton Castle.
May 2nd : Anne Boleyn arrested and taken to the Tower.
May 15th : Anne Boleyn tried for treason, adultery and incest in the Great Hall of the Tower of London.
May 19th : Anne Boleyn executed on Tower Hill. Anne's body and head were buried in an unmarked grave in the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula.
Within 24 hours of Anne Boleyn's execution, Jane Seymour and Henry VIII were formally betrothed.
May 30th : King Henry and Jane Seymour were married 1537 Jane Seymour dies after the premature birth of a son, the future King Edward VI

Princess Elizabeth is declared a bastard

On July 28th, 49 year old Henry married 19 year old Catherine Howard February 13th, Catherine Howard is executed for adultery

The nine-year-old Elizabeth was distraught when her father beheaded Catherine Howard. Catherine was Anne Boleyn's cousin and had been very kind to Elizabeth 1542 1543 July 12th, Henry marries Katherine Parr who had a near brush with death when she was linked with 'heretical' religious reformers.

Mary Stuart is sent to France King Edward VI dies of tuberculosis and he left the throne to 'the Lady Jane Grey and her heirs male.' 1553 Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that can affect your lungs and other parts of your body. With proper treatment, people with TB can be cured of the infection. On July 10th of the same year, Lady Jane Grey Proclaimed Queen of England (Queen for just Nine Days)

On July 19th, Queen Jane was deposed as Queen On July 6th, Mary I, daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, is proclaimed Queen of England 1554 March 18th, Princess Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower for eight weeks. On July 25th, Queen Mary I married King Philip II of Spain England returns to Roman Catholicism

Protestants are persecuted and 300 are burnt at the stake (in later times this leads to Queen Mary I being called Bloody Mary) 1555 Queen Mary I dies November 17 and Queen Elizabeth I becomes Queen of England 1558 November 17th, Accession of Queen Elizabeth, Elizabeth succeeded her Catholic sister Mary I and re-established the Protestant Anglican Church. (Reigned 1558 - 1603) 1558 1559 Francis II and Mary Queen of Scots are crowned king and queen of France. Mary also claims the throne of England
On January 13th, Elizabeth is crowned Queen of England 1562 Queen Elizabeth almost dies of Smallpox Smallpox was an infectious disease unique to humans, caused by either of two virus variants, Variola major and Variola minor. June 19th, Mary Stuart's only child is born (James, later king of Scotland and England). 1566 July 24th, Mary abdicates and her baby son, James, becomes King James VI, King of Scotland - her illegitimate brother, the Earl of Murray acts as Protector 1567 1568 The Flight to England - The Catholic Mary Queen of Scots is imprisoned by Elizabeth I at Fotheringay Castle 1575 November 14th, Queen Elizabeth declines to accept the sovereignty of the Netherlands November 28th, 18 year-old William Shakespeare and 26 year-old Anne Hathaway pay a 40-pound bond for their marriage license 1582 1585 Elizabethan War with Spain (1585 - 1604) exploded due to various conflicts surrounding the wealth and power to be gained from trade from the New World. And the differences in Religion. February 8th,Mary Queen of Scots is executed 1587 1588 August 8th, the Spanish Armada of 132 ships is defeated by the English fleet of 34 ships and 163 armed merchant vessels under Lord Howard of Effingham, Sir Francis Drake, and Sir John Hawkins (war between Spain and England continues until 1603) Queen Elizabeth tells Parliament that she has the right to assent or dissent from anything they do
Penalties are proposed for people who refuse to attend Church of England services and to make it a crime to attend Catholic services 1593 1594 - 1603 1603 March 24th, Queen Elizabeth I dies and the Tudor dynasty ends
