Where and when was he born?
He was born on August 11, 1921 in Ithaca New York.
His early life!
Alex Haley was born in Ithaca, New York, on August 11, 1921, and was the oldest of three brothers and a sister. Haley lived with his family in Henning, Tennessee, before returning to Ithaca with his family when he was five years old.
What was his occupation?
Alex was an author of the 1976 book roots: The Saga of an American Family. The book was adapted by ABC as a TV mini-series of the same name and aired in 1977 to a record breaking 130 million viewers.
How did he die?
Alex Haley died from a heart attack on February 10, 1992 in Seattle Washington. He was only 70 years old when he passed away!
He graduated high school at the age of 15 and enrolled at Alcorn A&M college, in Mississippi. After one year at Alcorn he transferred to Elizabeth City State teachers college in North Carolina.
