Costa Rica! By: Kaily Lamkey and Megan Ireland! Location Costa Rica is located in Central America. To the north of Costa Rica is Nicaragu and to the south is Panama. It borders the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Climate and Phisical Features The whole country of Costa Rica has a Tropical climate. One physical feature in Costa Rica is the Osa Peninsula. It is located in the southern part of Costa Rica while the Nicoya Peninsula is located in the Northern part. There are many rivers all over that include Narnajo and Savregre that are in western Costa Rica and Toro, Pacuare, and Reventazon which are in eastern Costa Rica. People Costa Rica's population is 4,576,562! The capital is San Jose`. 2 Major cities in Costa Rica are San Jose` and La Fortuna. San Jose` La Fortuna The major language spoken is Spanish. Some other languages spoken are Boruca, Bribri, Cabecar, Limon Creole English, and Teribe. The main religion is Roman Catholic. One other is Evangelical Protestant. History Costa Rica gained their independence in 1827. It was a Spanish colony, until Spain gave them their freedom. Costa Rica went to war, know as the Costa Rican Civil War, due to a presidential election. Economy Costa Rica's natural resources found there are hydroelectric power, forest products, and fish products. They also make money by agriculture, industry, and products like bananas, pineapples, coffee, sugar, dairy and much more. Current Events in Costa Rica One political obstacle is having trouble delivering health care to people outside the cities because of the poverty.
