Transcript of Imagine your own perfect Civic Application

Social Innovation refers to new strategies, concepts, ideas and organizations that meet social needs of all kinds – from working conditions and education to community development and health – and that extend and strengthen civil society.

It's not just listening to someone talk in a church basement.
What is Civic Engagement, anyway?
Using technology to connect, collaborate and to build better communities.
Government 2.0 and social innovation
What we need you to do today

Brainstorm an idea for a social innovation or civic tech-based app with your team, using any of the data sets as a starting point.

Put together a ONE-MINUTE pitch to present to the judges and to the rest of the class.

1) Cannot create something that already exists.
2) Cannot just take points and put them onto a Map.
Today's Challenge
Things to keep in mind
What data set will you be using?

How does this help the community? Who does it help?

Could this be on several different platforms? mobile, desktop, Google Glasses … etc.

Could this be adapted to other countries?

BE CREATIVE! this is an exercise for your imagination :-)
The Presentation
FIRST: Tell your idea name, what it does, and which data set it is based on.

THEN: Tell what makes it different…how it’s unique.

LASTLY: Wrap it all up in one clear sentence.
