A Guide to her Universe
Cecil Castellucci
Meet Egg. She likes comics,
drawing, sci-fi movies, and
she doesn't want a boyfriend.
She's an outsider and she
likes it that way - or does she?
Watch Cecil talk about arty
girls, her favorite comic books,
and her work with libraries.
Working with illustrator Jim Rugg, Cecil tells the story of
a secret club of misfits working to show that art saves lives.
Does being the queen
of cool really matter
if you aren't happy?
Compared to her punk rock dad
and his cooler-than-thou crowd,
Katy feels just plain old beige.
Take a tour of Los Angeles
with Cecil and find out her inspiration for writing Beige.
Two ballet dancers growing up
in New York City in the 1980s -
- one Soviet, one American -
one night to form a friendship.
Mal feels like an alien, so
what happens when he meets
someone who claims to be one?
How do you ask for
forgiveness when you
feel like a monster?
Who is Cecil?
Cecil grew up in Montreal, but moved to New York City to attend LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts. (It's the high school from the old movie Fame!)

After high school, Cecil moved back to Montreal and joined an all-female indie band called Bite, then a
band called Nerdy Girl. When Nerdy Girl broke up, Cecil moved to Los Angeles and recorded solo under the name Cecil Seaskull. Her first novel for teens,
Boy Proof, was published in 2005.
