Transcript of MERMAIDS

MERMAIDS
MERMAIDS
Mermaids are mythical creatures that are part girl and part fish
the name comes from "Mer" meaning sea
Mermaids are described at monstrous and ugly but they are more usually very beautiful
It is said that Christophor Columbus saw three mermaids off the island of Haiti in 1493. He said "they came quite high out of the water" , "but were not as beautiful as depicted" "for some reason there faces looked like men". Some tales say that mermaids forgot that humans could not breath under water and pulled them into the depths of the sea accidentally drowning them.
