Main Points
Teaching is an art.
When polled, "What did you like most about your favorite teacher?"
The #1 Response is:

He/she cared.

Do with students what your favorite teacher did for you.

Being a Christian Teacher means...
being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ.
discipleship to Jesus is our overriding goal.
Biblical principals should permeate everything we do and teach.
we look at everything through the lens of Scripture.
we do what needs to be done.
Colossians 1:16
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
We are all God's creation.
God desires that we all become His children.
Mark 8:36
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
John 17:17- Your word is truth.
"Only Christian Schools can teach the whole truth."
1) The Word is Truth-- John 17:17, 2 Tim. 3:16
2) The Spirit is Truth-- John 4:24
3) The Father is Truth-- John 1:14
4) The Son is Truth-- John 14:6
Everything must be examined through the lens of scripture. If scripture and the world don't line up, its the world that is wrong.
Just because an aspect of God's truth is not explicitly addressed in scripture, it doesn't mean we separate Truth from what is secular.

Shows value of whole subject in light of God's Truth.
Repetition is GOOD.
Can be dissected.
Students need more specifics.
Sole repetition over 40+ weeks gives a narrow view of scripture.
Lesson Specific
Tied to the specific lesson you are teaching.
Encourages students to see Truth beyond Bible Class and Church.
Can be "forced" if we aren't careful.
Situation Specific
Related to specific life situations the teacher or students encounter.
Examples: Personal Needs, Current Events
Organic- integrates naturally into daily life.
Connects with students.
Can be dissected.
Are you ready with scripture?
Waiting for the perfect moment.
Teaches awareness of Truth's presence.
Challenging- not all of scripture addresses present day situations.
Missing many good moments.

Mathematics is the language of God for the foundation and function of the world. It encompasses the spheres of nearly every aspect of life and through the appropriate biblical integration of math at RIS students should see not only the character and nature of creation, but of God Himself. RIS views mathematics as an essential part of helping students function efficiently in today’s society.

Twelve Basic Functions- all functions have certain key characteristics that identify them as being connected to one of the twelve basic functions, or at least a combination of several. When people look at me, what defines me? Who am I at my core?

Piece-wise functions are interesting because they combine several basic functions to make a completely new graph. It makes me think of the song “Tapestry” we’ve been listening to in Chapel. Remind students that we are a tapestry that God has woven together intentionally and beautifully. Even in the context of the Church, we are given different gifts so that each person helps complete the body of Christ.

Both methods need an OVERHAUL!

An overhaul will happen at some point, what observations can we make now, and what changes can we begin implementing?
Overall- inconsistent.
Outdated curriculum.
Curriculum not age appropriate.
Flexible Curriculum
Lots of liberty on what and how you can teach.
Little consistency between teachers, years, and subjects.

Guidelines are not meant to be a burden.
The more you practice, the more comfortable you will be.
Integration in YOUR subject might make all of the difference to a student.
You don't know what they are or are not learning in other classes. Don't assume, they will learn elsewhere.
Making B.I. a Routine:
Study scripture -- Joshua 1:8, 1 Peter 3:15
Put it in your lesson plans (and actually follow your plans).
Plan what TIME in class you will share it.
Plan HOW you will share it:
Write scripture on board, have students copy it, then discuss the scripture/integration.
Ask or write a guiding question.
Planning HOW is the most important.
