One of the world’s most important food crops.

More than half of people in the world eat this grain as

the main part of their meals.

1. What is Rice??
The largest continent with 60% of the earth’s population.

It was gathered and eaten by people in Southeast Asia for thousands of years ago.
2. History of Rice
3. What is the meaning of Rice to Asia?
Nowadays, as people know, rice is a very main food in the world. There are

40000 types of different rice, but if we look only into Asia, we see there are three

popular types of rice; White Jasmine Rice, Sticky Rice, and Japan

Kushihikari Rice.
1. Popular Types of Rice in Asia

Rice is used for different purposes. Most people eat rice, and that makes rice so

useful that we have to grow it in time of demand. However, before eating rice, it is

still needed to be cooked. In addition, rice is also used in many other food

industry.
2. How rice is used?

In Asia, there are three different types of environment that rice can be grown in.

And that turns Asia to the most rice-producing continent.

They are: irrigated environment, rainfed environment, and wetland environment.
3. Different Types of Environment for Growing Rice in Asia
Irrigated Environment
This type of rice growing environment

involves with a system called "Irrigation". It

is a kind of system when the rice is

supported by the artificial water supply

made by human.
Rainfed Environment
It is old and traditional style of growing

rice. Rainfed environment is a kind of

environment that people who grow rice

depend on the rainfall annualation.
Wetland Environment
Wetland environment is a kind of

environment which is always sodden

because of the nearby source of water.

Look to Mekong River, for an example of

this type of environment for growing rice.

4. Controlling Disease and Pest

5. Harvesting

Rice is really a kind of major food. People need rice so

much especially for Asia, but that doesn't mean that only

Asia needs rice. Other continents as well need rice as food.
