By: Katie, Rachel, and Rosie Succeeding in the World of Work -You need a positive attitude
-Attitude determines how others perceive you
-Enthusiasm might not always feel natural, push and try to feel it.
-Control your reactions to unusual situations How To Develop A Positive Attitude -Take action instead of complaining
-Try to turn negative situations into positive situations
-Look on the bright side (-:
-When you present ideas, do it happily
-Speak in an upbeat way, clearly and politely -When you think positively, you are more receptive, or open, to the people around you.
-Recognition and regard for yourself and your abilities
-Need self esteem to have a positive attitude
-Self esteem generates confidence
-Confidence generates success -Make lists of abilities and accomplishments
-Set reachable goals, figure out ways to achieve them
-Think about the positive impact you have on others
-Accomplish something challenging -If you love your job, you will have enthusiasm in your work
-Enthusiasm- eager interest Follow Up -Is a little voice in your head that gives negative messages:
I'm not smart.
I can't do this.
-Try to out talk your self doubt with positive thoughts
-To accept an mistake; make sure it's actually a mistake Self-Esteem Accept responsibility for your mistakes Five Steps:

-Accept responsibility for it
-Figure out a way to solve the problem
-Figure out what you can learn from it
-Forgive yourself and move on How to build self esteem Being Assertive Enthusiasm Inner Self Doubt -Being direct, honest, polite
-Some hints to be assertive:
~you need to know what's important
~you need to use positive language, speak with confidence
~Volunteer for projects and services
~Ask questions/ make suggestions
~Be friendly, outgoing, and respectful Arrogance Learn From Your Mistakes -don't be over bearing
-you will be considered rude and impolite
-DON'T get arrogance mixed up with assertiveness Acting Like A Professional - Why are many employees fired?
They don't work well with others, for many reasons:
Accepting diversity- the first step to acting like a professional
Be professional! Be respectful! Be mature! Professionalism -def. The ability to handle problems, criticisms, and pressures in a mature way
-Be professional on the job Criticism You need to be able to accept constructive criticism to survive a job
Constructive Criticism- criticism presented in a way that helps you to learn, and is not meant to be offensive More Criticism Supervisors should balance criticism and compliments
Defensive: Being closed to other people's opinions about you/your actions (Not accepting criticism) Constructive Criticism vs. Unhelpful Criticism C.C. U.C. Addresses behavior or attitude in a positive way Is specific Tends to be given in private Offers ways to improve Denounced in public Is general Give no idea of what to improve on Addresses behavior or attitude in a demeaning or negative way Responding to Criticism 1. Listen to it
2. Understand it, or ask to clarify
3. Identify a solution
4. Fix the problem! In the end you must use must use your own judgement to solve the problem Avoid Gossip -Gossip is saying negative things behind other's backs
-Often untrue and hurtful Stress -Common in todays work place
-What happens to your boss, may affect you
-To avoid stress, set priorities and effective self management Anger -Needs to be controlled
-Can damage work relationships
-Can slow productivity To manage anger -Take a deep breath
-Count to 10
-Think 'why am I really angry?' The 5 step model -Channel energy instead of channeling anger
~Define the problem
~Decide on possible solutions
~Evaluate those solutions
~Make a decision
