Myall Creek Massacre
Transcript of Myall Creek Massacre
Details Occured on the 10th of June 1838 Took place in Northern NSW Two young aborigine women were not murdered so they could be raped
John Fleming was the leader of the stockmen In 1838 white people had settled in Australia for just 51 years. The whites were pushing into Aboriginal land and dispossessing there property. White settlers were engaged in many clashes with the Aborigines. Some of these involved massacres. SOME selfish whites Defenseless Aborigines Weapons Myall Creek Massacre Myall Creek Massacre About 50 Aboriginal people had moved to Myall Creek Station at the invitation of a stockman employed there.
The stockmen, led by John Fleming, were galloping towards the huts of Myall Creek Station where the remaining Aboriginal people were preparing their evening meal.
The stockmen herded the defenceless Aboriginal people together and tied their hands together with a long rope. Only two young boys escaped. Within twenty minutes of their arriving they hauled their captives westwards from the huts and over the top of a hill. About 800 metres from the huts the defenceless Aboriginal people were cut and slashed to death. They were beheaded and their headless bodies were left where they died. The stockmen then set up camp, drinking and bragging about their kills.
