Transcript of Mark Seliger

Mark Seliger
Mark Seliger was born in Amarillo, Texas in 1959. He lived there with his family until 1964, when he moved to Houston, Texas. Mark was interested in baseball before photography and was in the Little League. His brother promised Mark a camera if he were to hit a base hit. Eventually, the camera was his and he got hooked on photography and taking pictures. He loved it. His work began in a darkroom in his house bathroom, where he would print out his photos, to produce hard copies. Mark attended East Texas State University, where he studied the history of documentary photography. 1984, he moved to New York City, where he began small shootings for the
Rolling Stone

Yes. When Mark Seliger was a kid, he was in Little League Baseball. His brother promised Mark that if you hit a base then he would provide him with a camera, his FIRST camera. Mark did not hit the base but got to walk one anyways because he got hit in the shoulder with the ball and the camera was soon his.
What do you like (or not like) about their work, and why did you select this photographer?
I like everything about Mark Seliger's photos. They have perfect lighting and they are all aesthetically pleasing. I chose him because his main focus is to take celebrity portraits and I like to see people I have seen outside of the photo placed perfectly into one of Mark Seliger's photos. It's like seeing a distant friend in a good photo and it's nice to see a familiar face.
