Transcript of Placebos

What is a Placebo? A fake medicine that works
depending on the
patient's beliefs and only has
ingredients like sugar. To What Extent Will the Placebo
Work? The effectiveness of the placebo
depends on the patient's belief. Hypertension, pain, Parkinson's disease, Psoriasis,
Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ulcers have been
successfully cured by placebos. Atherosclerosis, cancer, high cholesterol,
and OCD do not respond to placebos. Do People Charge for Placebos?
Yes and no. Yes because some medicines are
placebos.Also because the
pricier the drug,
the stronger the effect. No because it can be anything. Fun Facts Vitamin C and E don't prevent
cardiovascular disease. There are sometimes placebo
prescriptions and even
surgeries. Some medicines are no better
than placebos. The term placebo comes from the
Latin word "placere", meaning
to please. 60% of people report signs
of improvement when given only a placebo. Placebos By Benita 2010 Why are Placebos Used? Mainly to test other medicine by
finding volunteers with the
same disease. Then they give 1/2
the medicine being tested, and 1/2
the placebo. You'll know wheather
the medicine works or not if it
works better or worse than the
placebo. Sometimes, they are given to avoid bias, to
soothe or humor a patient, see the reaction,
or given to subjects with incurable diseases. Thanks for watching my prezi!
