Transcript of Gay Marriage
Since the birth of our nation, the United States has been a majority Christian country. Because of this religious culture, it is hard for various Americans to accept homosexuals. In fact, some churches even go to the extreme. For instance, the West Boro Baptist church is known to hate homosexuals and even use vulgar language and start uprisings in public areas. They yell, "Fags doom nations, God hates fags!", even though this is a direct assault on the separation of church and state.
Our heart's desire
Love has no boundaries, and we humans have the will to set our hearts on any individual. Gay marriage may be socially accepted by most of our fellow Americans; however, is it legally accepted as well? Not in all cases. Homosexual couples should have the right to legally wed. It is a union that couples of all sorts should have the right to experience.
So far only 16 countries -Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark,France,Iceland, Netherlands, New Zealand,Norway, Portugal,Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay- have legalized same-sex marriage.
In the U S only 35 states have legalized same-sex marriage. The United States still has a long way to go.
Because of the negligence towards gay rights by most states, there are over 9 million homosexuals in our country that are denied the right to get married. This negligence is fueled by religious taboo.
This act by the government is injustice. Based on the principles in the preamble of the Declaration of Independence, no one can be denied the right of marriage.
Being a Better Nation
The ACLU, American Civil Liberties Union, defends the rights of the LGBT community by fighting in court and reaching out to society to spread knowledge about the rights of homosexual couples.
