- Proses Solvay (Proses Soda-Amonium)

C + O2          CO2 + q
SUHU OPTIMUM = 950° - 1100°C , P = 2 - 3 atm
CaO + H2O       Ca ( OH )2 + q
SUHU OPTIMUM = 950° - 1100°C , P = 2 - 3 atm

NH3 + H2O           NH4OH + q
SUHU OPTIMUM = 40° - 50°C , P = 2 - 3 atm

2NH4OH + CO2         ( NH 4)2CO3 + H2O + q
SUHU OPTIMUM = 40° - 50°C , P = 2 - 3 atm

( NH 4)2CO3 + NaCl       NH4CL + NaHCO3
SUHU OPTIMUM = 40° - 50°C , P = 2 - 3 atm

Jadi, hasil reaksi dapat ditulis :
CaCO3 + 2NaCl         Na2CO3 + CaCl2
Proses Leblanc dapat menghasilkan soda dengan kualitas lebih baik daripada metoda sebelumnya. Namun, proses ini menghasilkan sejumlah produk samping seperti asam sulfat, asam khlorida, kalsium khlorida, kalsium sulfida dan hidrogen sulfida. Oleh karena itu, proses Leblanc tidak ramah lingkungan.
- Keuntungan terbesar proses Solvay adalah penggunaan reaktor tanur bukannya reaktor tangki. - Produknya akan secara kontinyu diambil tanpa harus menghentikan reaksi.
- Sistem Solvay menggantikan proses Leblanc. - Produk samping proses Solvay adalah kalsium khlorida. Amonia dan karbondioksida digunakan ulang.
- Khlorin menjadi asam klorida = tidak berbahaya.
