Transcript of Harry Potter

Quidditch Quidditch is a game very similar to basketball, but played on flying broomsticks with 3 goalposts on either side, 4 balls, and 7 players on each team. It is the main sport of the wizard world. Bludgers 2 Bludgers fly around trying to knock the nearest players off their brooms. The players called Beaters attempt to hit the Bludgers as far away from their team as possible using clubs or bats. Quaffle The Quaffle is a ball that is tossed between Chasers to be shot into the 3 goalposts to score points. The posts guarded by the Keeper. Golden Snitch The Golden Snitch is the smallest ball of the three. The Snitch is a very agile and speedy ball with wings. It is worth 150 points and ends the game when caught by the Seeker. Magical Creatures Dragons The Wizarding world contains many creatures unknown to us muggles, including dragons, pixies, demons,... There are tons of species of dragons around the world. There are Hungarian Horntails, Chinese Fireballs, Norwegian Ridgebacks, Common Welsh Greens, Hebridean Blacks, Peruvian Vipertooths, Antipodean Opaleyes, Romanian Longhorns, Swedish Short-Snouts, and Ukrainian Ironbellies. Although many dragon breeds are harmless, it is illegal in the wizard world to own them or their eggs. Harry Potter Harry Potter is the story of a boy who sets out to kill the Dark Lord Voldemort upon discovering he is a wizard and all of his stories. Winged Horses There are many winged horses in the wizard world, including Thestrals, Hippogriffs, Abraxans, Granians, and Aethonians. Creatures Recognized by the Muggle World Many creatures of the wizard world are recognized in the muggle world also- as myths and fiction. The Loch Ness monster is a kelpie, a beast found in the water which can change forms. Other creatures recognized by muggles include sphinxes, griffins, unicorns, dragons, pixies, boggarts, centaurs, ghouls, gnomes, hippocampuses, leprechauns, manticores, merpeople, pheonixes, salamanders(which in the wizard world feed off of fire), sea serpents, trolls, yetis, werewolves, etc. The Magical World The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is divided into 4 houses which each compete for house points to win the house cup. House points are awarded for answering questions correctly, The 4 houses are Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. At Hogwarts, students 11 to 18 study spells, charms, potions, transfiguration, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Surrounding it is the Forbidden Forest, a forest full of dangerous and mysterious creatures which the students are forbidden to enter. The main part of the stories take place at Hogwarts. Hogwarts The magical world stretches around the globe. Wizards are everywhere, but we just think they are muggles. The stories of Harry Potter take place in several places, including Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Diagon Alley, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Durmstrang Institute, the Ministry of Magic, Azkaban, Hogsmeade, and a plethora of other sites. Diagon Alley Diagon Alley is the main shopping area for wizarding supplies and everything magical a wizard might need. It contains Gringotts(the bank), Ollivander's(the wand shop), Madam Malkin's(the robe store) and many, many other stores. Hogsmeade Hogsmeade is a small village where Hogwarts students Third Years and older may go to with a permission slip. It contains many fun stores and places, including Zonko's(the toy and prank store), Honeydukes(the candy shop), and the Three Broomsticks(a store where you can get drinks and food). Characters There are many people on Harry's journeys, many of which are important to them. Harry Potter Harry is known to all wizards as "the boy who lived" after surviving the killing curse. He and his friends set out to defeat the Dark Lord. Hermione Granger Hermione is one of Harry's best friends. She accompanies him and Ron on the journeys and is often recognized as the smart one of the group. Ron Weasley Ron is Harry's best friend, and goes along with Hermione and him through all the stories and battles. Neville Longbottom Neville ends up becoming friends with the group- although he does not accompany them all the time, he does play a major role. Draco Malfoy Malfoy is Harry's worst enemy, other than Voldemort. Harry can't stand him. Malfoy, along with his crew, and they end up becoming Death Eaters, supporters of Voldemort. Vicent Crabbe Gregory Goyle Crabbe is one of Malfoy's henchmen. He and Goyle follow him around everywhere. Goyle is Malfoy's other henchman. He and Crabbe are best friends and walk around with Malfoy. Albus Dumbledore Dumbledore is the Headmaster at Hogwarts. He is an immensely powerful wizard and quite fond of gumdrops. Minerva McGonagall Professor McGonagall is strict but nice. She teaches transfiguration at Hogwarts. She is also the Headmistress and the Head of the Gryffindor House. Severus Snape Snape is a quite mean teacher and the professor of potions. He is the Head of Slytherin. Lord Voldemort There he is, Lord Voldemort. Tom Marvolo Riddle(which when scrambled spell out I am Lord Voldemort). Along with his Death Eaters and the Dementors, he attempts to take over the world.
