05.04 Holocaust
Annie Pham
I was persecuted because of my religion. I am a Jew. The führer didn't like Jews, he wanted us all to die. Jews in Germany got the same treatmeant when his armies invaded. By 1942, most of Europe was controlled by Hitler, even most of our family. Many people like me were persecuted because Hitler didn't like Jews. I don't think he likes my dark hair and dark eyes.
Why I was persecuted
First I remember them taking mother and father away as they screamed. Then they took me and Rudy away, we were together but fearful that we would never see mother and father everagain. They took us from our house to a place called labor camp. They took our clothes and my favorite stuffed animal. We were always hungry and never had any food. We had to sleep on wood in the cold. I'm always scared that the next day will be my last. I wonder why the United States hasn't done anything, father said they were very powerful.
Where did you go? Describe your experience at the camp. What happened to your family? How did the United States respond to your experience?
I can't believe it! We finally made it out. All the pain me and brother went through is over. We were so excited to see mother and father, but we found out that father didn't make it. Our tears were both of happiness and sadness. Although I am only 11, I feel as though i've been through a lifetime. It makes me think about life and the world around us. People changing and the scene of this world is changing. It has helped me to appreciate everything I have. It might not be much but I am grateful to have my life.
What will your future bring? Predict what you think will happen to you now that you have been liberated. How has the world changed since your imprisonment? How have you changed?
Directions: Imagine yourself as one of the children in the liberation photograph. Complete the three paragraphs as a first-person narrative from his or her point of view.
