Essay #2 Fashion In Society
Transcript of Essay #2 Fashion In Society
"Whether we like it or not, whether we want it or not, we are constantly bombarded by information, which, of course, includes fashion," -Tamara Albu The Pros and Cons of Fashion When fashion consumes a persons life, it turns into vanity. Fashion is not a sin, but it's what fashion can cause (vanity, selfishness, pride) when it is abused. Fashion can be helpful to a person's life when used in moderation, but can be harmful when given too much influence in a persons life. Pros: -Fashion is walking art, it expresses yourself identity, and binds you to culture.
-Fashion, in and of itself, is not harmful to society, but the emphasis placed on it is.
-Fashion can make us more self-confident and make us feel better in many stressful situations. Cons: -It harms the environment, it promotes low paid work, an unhealthy self-image and futility and contributes to the increase of consumerism. -The fashion industry can be harmful to society, due to its unnatural display of weight requirements. -Fashion can be harmful to society, because it inspires people to make potentially harmful lifestyle choices. Proverbs 31:30-"Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Psalm 119:37- "Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways." 1 Samuel 16:7- "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'" Jeremiah 4:30- "And you, O desolate one, what do you mean that you dress in scarlet, that you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, that you enlarge your eyes with paint? In vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers despise you; they seek your life.
