Internet Safety, Passwords, & Privacy
Social media is the social interaction among people in which they create, share or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.
The use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to oneself
Don’t respond to and don’t forward cyberbullying messages.
Keep evidence of cyberbullying. Record the dates, times, and descriptions of instances when cyberbullying has occurred. Save and print screenshots, emails, and text messages. Use this evidence to report cyberbullying to a trusted adult, service providers, or a parent/guardian.
Block the person who is cyberbullying.
Gaming & Chat Rooms
Never give out your real name, location, gender, age, phone number, or any other personal information.
Internet safety, or online safety, is the knowledge of maximizing the user's personal safety and security risks on private information.
Remember that what you say in a chat room or instant messaging session is live — you can’t take it back or delete it later.
If someone says or does something creepy, block them and don’t respond, or sign out.
Always remember that if something occurs that you don't feel comfortable with then you can talk to a trusted adult or a parent/guardian.
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.
What To Do??
What Is It?
How fast can Social Networks Send Items?
Social Networks like:
Can send the item or picture or messages within seconds depending on what connection you have.Once you send it off it is almost impossible to get it back.
Social Media is a way for communicating to your friends and family IF used correctly
Computer viruses are small software programs that are designed to spread from one computer to another and to interfere with computer operation.
What Can They Do??
Viruses can sync into (phones) but mostly computers. They can clear your computer, they can steal information, and they can most importantly ruin your computer.
Frequent Password Changing:
You should always change your passwords frequently (monthly) so that way you can insure that you are the only one using the specific account. This also help for you to make sure that you are keeping hijackers or hackers out of your account by resetting your passwords
Never Share Your Passwords:
Never share your passwords to anyone, even your best friend!!!
What happens if you don't create a strong password?
If you don't create a strong password:
How do you create a secure password??
The password should atleast include:
Eight characters long
1 number and 1 symbol
Include user name
Your real name
Common words that you use
Use the same password for other accounts
Include your favorite hobbies, sports, or
something that would be easy for someone to guess
Passwords are created to help keep your data, accounts, and personal information private.
Is this password easy to guess?
Does this contain atleast 8 characters?
Is this password easy to guess, even to my bestfriend?
Will this protect my account, information, and data?
Your personal information could get stolen
Your Email could be hacked and someone could forge emails that are insulting or disturbing
Your data could be stolen or erased (cleared)
Your account could be reset and someone could use your account
Someone could use any data on your account against you
Once you share your password with someone, even your best friend, the person might get pressured to share it. You may think that it is in safe hands, but it is most likely not. Things that you wouldn't want to happen could happen. Someone could log on to that account and (again) forge a rude message or photoshop, or even do something way worse. So never share your passwords with anyone unless your telling a parent/guardian.
Privacy is something that can keep your (personal) information, account, or even your web browsing, and computer safe and secure on the settings that you have them set to.
Make sure that you know who and what apps is/are allowed to (wirelessly) access your photos, contacts, calendars, reminders, camera, and other personal information and/or data.
A firewall helps protect your computer, hardware, and network. A firewall also stops threats from the internet, as well as it also helps prevent the spread of a virus could be in your computer, hardware, or network (server).
Should be attempted to change the privacy setting to private so that way you know that the only people that are seeing your posts/messages are people that you accepted.
How To Change??
For most if not all of these types of social networking; you should be able to go to "Settings" then from there it should just be a regular switch that asks "do you want this account to be private"? Otherwise there will be a different area that says "Privacy Settings" and then there will be the same question.
What is 'Location Services"?
Location services is something that
allows someone or a app to track your location on a map.
Make sure that you are highly aware of who is following you, and who is able to see your location(messages & posts). Also make sure in your phone and computer settings you only have the apps that you want to be using your location, otherwise remove them.
Are your personal information, data, and accounts safe and secure??
Find out more during my presentation that is about Internet Safety, Passwords, and Privacy!
What Did You Learn?
Always know who you allow to follow and access your location, accounts, and personal information. Also create STRONG passwords to insure that all your data and accounts are safe and secure. And keep your social media accounts private for safety, and make sure that your computer is protected by (a) firewall(s) to protect yourself from viruses.
