Students will learn:
I describe “visual arts” as the practice of “art, craft and design”. I have been in the Arts field for over 20 years and have continuously being in awe of the work that my students have delivered.
The objectives for lower elementary (grade 1 and 2) emphasize that the visual arts are about ideas and they will acquire ideas from their own experiences. Development will be in the cognitive, sensory, affective, and motor domains.
The arts will be taught through the ‘units of inquiry’ and supports the students’ inquiries.
It is important that students are exposed to a broad range of experiences that illustrate the field of visual arts.
The objectives for upper elementary (grades 3-5) show an understanding that their own creative work can be interpreted and appreciated in different ways.
Students will examine aspects of the artistic process: generating ideas, problem solving, and self-assessment.
They recognize that creating in art provides a sense of accomplishment, not only in the process, but also in providing them with a way to understand the world.
