Horta Labyrinth Park
Horta Labyrinth Park
LOCATION
It is a historic garden, the oldest that is preserved in the city. It is located on the former estate of the Desvalls family, on a hill in the Collserola mountain range. It began in 1794 and ended in its first phase in 1808, was the work of the Italian architect Domenico Bagutti. The park includes a neoclassical garden from the 18th century and a romantic garden from the 19th century.
WHAT IS IT?
The Labyrinth Park offers arguments of both types. Symmetry, topiary art and regular gardening, templates with Tuscan columns, fountains and springs, mythological sculptures, a neoclassical pavilion dedicated to the muses and, on the other hand, the sound of the water in freedom in a waterfall and a stream in a Stone Bed , Moss and wild plants, a more wild and sombre garden, upholstered with ivy and flower of love, irregular arboreal arrangement of yew trees, pines, bananas and large bricks and a single cement. Sage green and crazy green, dominated nature and free nature. They are the elements that mark the different stages of growth of the park, which was born neoclassical in 1791 and grew and ended romantic in 1853

Art and architecture
The park occupies the grounds of a farm of the Marquess of Llupià, of Poal i d'Alfarràs, a very enlightened man who commissioned the work to the Italian Domenico Bagutti, who worked in her until 1808. The French gardener Delvalet was responsible for the plantations , And a Catalan master of works, Jaume Valls, supervised the works. The Desvalls family maintained the property until the 1970s, when it was handed over to the Town Hall. It was inaugurated as a public park in 1971. In 1994 an in-depth restoration was carried out, which transformed the concept into a garden museum category.

Landscaping and Design

The park of the Labyrinth d'Horta is a garden museum. His museographic discourse is the journey through the duality between neoclassicism and romanticism. A journey that begins at the Chinese gate, a vestige of an Oriental garden that has disappeared. Continue through the garden of the bojes (Buxus sempervirens), a stealthy garden that preserves the spirit of the designer, landscaper and Italian gardener Domenico Bagutti, creator of the park commissioned by Antoni Deszanjas, Marquis of Llupià i Alfarràs. From this garden, born of careful pruning, the paths leading to the Ariadna and Danae shrines, the domestic garden and the romantic garden, which occupy the left side of the park, leave the garden.
