The Loyalist vs. Patriot Debate

We need the military protection of Great Britain!

British soldiers kept us safe during the French & Indian War, and they continue to protect us.
Their army and navy is the best in the world - fighting against them would be foolish! (They have about 500,000 soldiers and scores of warships.)
We enjoy all the benefits of having the best military without any of the expenses!

Our colonies have become prosperous because of trade with Britain.
We have access to goods from all over the world.
There is a safe market for our own goods in Britain.
Our economy would suffer if we gained independence!
We are all subjects of the British crown!
We speak the same language, have the same traditions, and the same cultural background.
King George III is our rightful king as chosen by God. Therefore, treason against the king is treason against God.

He has tried to appease those who complain:
He repealed the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts, and the Sugar Act
even though

Britain needed the money to pay off the debt from the French & Indian War (a war WE benefited from the most!)
The Tea Act actually LOWERED the price on tea!
He has given us a great deal of freedom to manage our own lives.

If we were to separate from Great Britain
There would be chaos and disorder
Property will be destroyed and lives will be lost
This "democracy" will be nothing more than an unruly mob!

While it is true that the situation with Britain is far from perfect, it is still better than going forward with this illegal rebellion - people need to stop complaining and pay their taxes!
The British military is strong, but we have the home field advantage!
We know our homeland better than they do and we will fight harder!
If we can convince Britain's enemies to join us, we do not have to fight alone. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend!

We will be much better off without Britain controlling our trade.
We can trade with anyone we please and won’t be forced to buy British goods any longer.
We can develop our own manufacturing! A manufactured good is worth more money than an unfinished one.

There is a great distance between Britain and America. This is proof we are not meant to be ruled by them!
We have brilliant leaders and hardworking people who are ready to build a new country!
People have certain rights that cannot be taken away.
As Thomas Jefferson wrote: "...whenever any government becomes destructive of these rights, (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness), it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it."

Britain and King George III have absolutely been destructive towards our rights:
British soldiers live in our homes and have committed terrible acts of violence and brutality! (Boston Massacre and Lexington?)
Heavy taxes deprive us of our property but we still have no representation in Parliament!

We have tried to petition King George to hear our complaints but he has repeatedly ignored us. Therefore, we have no other choice but to declare independence from Great Britain!
