The steps to this activity are:

1. Using a computer and the smartboard show the students the following video which reviews over family vocabulary:

This lesson will primarily focus on listening, verbally forming questions, and answering in complete sentences using family and animal vocabulary.

1. I will start this lesson by showing the student’s a list of physical description words for people on these two website:

La Famille et Les Animaux
2. I will play the youtube video “Describing people in French” :




-As a class we will listen to the first 3 descriptions.
-I will then mute the video so we can give our own descriptions to the pictures.
-We will re-watch the part of the video we muted, in order to see if the video’s description was any different.
- We will continue watching and practicing the descriptions until I feel the students are comfortable with the process. (7 minutes)
3. We will play the game called “Devine qui c'est?”
In order to play I would:
(1) Place this picture on the smartboard:

(3) I will open this page twice and place them side by side.
(4) I will quickly review over the french names for the animals. As I do so, I will write the names under the pictures.
(5) I will explain the game to the students. It is similar to the English game Guess Who?
-Both teams pick a picture on the board
-Each team and each individual in each group takes turns asking
physical questions about the opposing teams chosen card
-With each question the players can narrow down what card is
their opponents.
-Students can cross off the faces of the people they know are not
their opponents chosen card.

Devine qui c'est?
-Students will play the game against me and
then they will play another game with each other

(10 minutes)

(1) For our last activity, I will hand back the student’s Arbre Généalogique which was created by them in Activity 1.

(2) I will place this picture of adjectives of personalities on the smartboard:




3. Activity with our Arbre Généalogique

(10 minutes)


(3) We will discuss the adjectives on describing personalities. (5 minutes)


(4) I will place the students into groups of two.

(5) I will instruct each student to present their Arbre Généalogique to their partner. Student’s will describe at least 3 physical features and a personality trait of each member of the family.


Activity 3:
La Nourriture
This Activity is related to the theme of Food

6.1 ask and respond to questions
6.2 develop, with support, simple oral and written texts
6.4 express, with support, emotions and opinion

Outcomes
This lesson will primarily focus on listening, verbally forming questions, and answering in complete sentences using food vocabulary.
Students will only be reading when playing the card game. They will also need to be listening inder to hear their cards called.


I will start the lesson by showing the following French webpage to the students:

(2) I will further demonstrate “Je n’aime pas...” and “Je préfère...” In the music selection “Je n'aime pas la choucroute” by La petite Lily:









The song will be explained to the students and played again.

3. I will play the video: “Je suis une pizza”










I will go over the vocabulary that the students do not understand.

( 5 minutes)

To reinforce the opinion statements shown on the web page of step 1, I will play a card game.



4. Card game!
1. The students will be handed 3 cards.

2. Each card has pictures and words representing the following: J’aime, Je n’aime pas, J’aime beaucoup, J’aime un peu, Je préfère, and a type of food. On the bottom of the card there will be another half written sentence with pictures

3. The student’s are expected to say the first picture/text out loud in a complete sentence. For example the student will say:
J'aime beaucoup les gâteaux.



The student will then ask:

Qui n’aime pas les légumes?








The person who has the statement “Je n’aime pas les légumes” will then read their card.

This game will continue until every card has been said.

The last card’s second sentence will say: Bon appétit!

( 5 minutes)


5. Pizza meal Activity:



Students will use their knowledge gained from the previous activities to have a conversation with a fellow classmate.

I will place the students in groups of two in order to engage in a food ordering
conversation. I will demo the conversation before they begin.

Explanation of Pizza Meal activity:

One of the partners will be the server and the other partner will be
the customer.

The Server will be directed to say:



Qu'est-ce que vous aimez sur votre pizza?
The customer will tell the server 4 toppings they love on their pizza.

J’aime beaucoup de fromage….
The server will draw a pizza and draw the 4 toppings on the pizza.
The server will then ask what drink and dessert the customer prefers from a list the server creates.

Préférez-vous Coke ou Pepsi?.....
The customer will answer.
Je préfère le Coke.
The server will draw the customer’s answer.

The student’s will trade roles and repeat step 5.








(15 minutes)
Activity 4
This Activity is related to the theme of hobbies, interests, and sports.






It relates to the specific curriculum outcomes of:
6.2 develop, with support, simple oral and written texts
6.2 take risks and accept errors as part of the learning process
6.4 express, with support, emotions and opinions
6.6 follow oral and written instructions, using a model




I will ask students to list in French the activities talked about in the video. I will replay the video to find any activities we missed.
(7 minutes).
This lesson will focus on listening, writing, and reading sentences using the vocabulary of hobbies, sports ,and interests.

1. I will start this lesson by playing the video “Qu'est-ce tu aimes faire?”:

3. I will place this worksheet on the smartboard and talk about the vocab:

will get the students to do a variation of the activity asked by the French teacher at the end of the video in step 3 by using the form in step
(10 minutes).

Description of creating a sentence activity:

I will write out this example, so that the student’s can use it as a model:

“Je fais de judo, C’est super. Mais je déteste faire de l’équitation.”
“Je joue au rugby. Je suis heureuse quand je joue au rugby. Mais je n’aime pas vraiment jouer au basketball”
“Je joue au rugby parce que je suis heureuse quand je joue au rugby. Mais je n’aime pas vraiment jouer au basketball.”

I will direct the students to:

i)-Write a sentence about a sport or activity that they “faire”.
-Describe how it makes them feel.
-Write a sentence about a sport or activity that they don’t like to do.

ii) -Write a sentence about a sport or activity that they “jouer”
-Describe how it makes them feel.
-Write a sentence about a sport or activity that they don’t like to do.

*students will use the worksheet in step 4, an English/French dictionary, and the video in step 3 to help them form their sentence. (I will replay the video). (12 minutes)

5. With the remaining time left in the class, I will place the students in groups of two and the students will read their work to each other.


While the students are listening to their partner, they will be drawing the partner partaking in one activity they love and in another activity they don’t care for.
Activity 5
This Activity is related to the theme of Animals

It relates to the specific curriculum outcomes of:

6.6 identify the main idea and several supporting details of simple texts

6.9 participate in forms of creative expression such as games, role play, music, art, and poems

Les Animaux
This lesson will primarily focus on listening, verbally forming questions, and writing these questions down so they are not forgotten. The lesson will be using animal vocabulary.

1. Students will watch the short musical movie “Les Trois Petits Cochons”:












Students will:

-décrire le déroulement du film (plot)
-décrire les caractères dans le film

Students will watch the movie again to see if they left anything out of their descriptions. (15 minutes)

3. Create an Interview

Students will role play as l’acteur/l’actrice or un journaliste in an interview about the personal life of the actors or about their movie that they just stared in.

I will place students into groups and I will assign the students to either a role of a character in the two movies or an interviewer. There will be 5 groups.

I will show the students a few seconds of a movie star being interviewed about her movie in French:


















The interviewer should introduce the actors.
The students can re-enact the French scenes as it does in the example interview.
The students can create and answer as many questions as they would like.
The students will focus on creating their own questions or answers with the help of their group members.

Possible Question: Pourquoi avez-vous fait ce film?

Possible Answer: Parce que j’aime le déroulement.

The next day, the script will be filmed and the students will create a movie poster together.
