CULTURE goal of the administrations during
the third republic Education Uplifting the masses from poverty The popularization of education was initiated by the Americans with Act 74 implemented in 1901, which paved the way for the establishment of secular schools in the Philippines.
Educational system was patterned after the American style of education
English was used as medium of instruction Higher Education became popular in the country University and college enrollment continued to increase
Private universities and colleges increased in numbers
Public high schools were constructed to give poor children a chance to study
Public schools were plagued with high enrollment, low salaries for teachers and inadequate resources
private institutions were established by people primarily to profit and not really mindful of providing quality education Community schools were established Community activities became part of school activities in rural areas such as Bataan, Bulacan, and Pampanga
Village nurseries were established where seedlings were distributed at low cost to the farmers
Adults were taught the methods and techniques of grafting, raising hogs and ducks, breeding, feeding and disease control Culture Various Presidents of the third republic had given priority to the development of the Filipino culture in their respective fields.
To encourage Filipinos to strive in their respective fields, prestigious awards were given to deserving artists. Awards Given National Artist Award
