Transcript of Vic Fuentes: Pierce The Veil

Origin of "Pierce The Veil"
Number One
Vic was born on February 10, 1983 in San Diego California. He graduated from Mission Bay High School and attended San Diego State University before committing himself to music. He founded the band with his brother Mike Fuentes in 2006.
Vic came up with the band's name while sitting in sociology class at San Diego State. The professor mentioned piercing the veil, meaning to go the direct root of the problem and removing it at the source. Vic liked the concept of stopping things that hurt you before they have a chance to build up. Thus, Pierce the Veil was born.
Pierce the Viel debuted their first album "A Flair For The Dramatic" in 2007. Followed by their second album "Selfish Machines" in 2010. They recently released their latest album "Collide With The Sky" in 2012.
Although Pierce the Veil is not recognized for any awards, their albums and songs have it the top of the charts and have done many world wide tours. "Collide With The Sky" entered the US Billboard 200 at No. 12, selling over 27,000 copies in its first debut week. Making a huge success for the band, especially considering that the album was leaked onto the internet four weeks before the official release. "Collide With The Sky" is also the band's first release through Fearless Records.
Vic has taken Pierce The Veil to top by receiving Alternative Press "2012 Readers Poll: Live Band Of The Year," 2012 Reader's Poll: Song Of The Year," "2012 Reader's Poll: Album Of The Year," and "2010 Reader's Poll: Music Video Of The Year."

"you know the only way to cure pain is to add a little more, because everything new distracts from the old"
Vic started writing songs in sixth grade and learned to play guitar in the ninth grade. He remembers that his father would play guitar around the house when he was young. The first song he learned how to play on guitar was "Brainstew" by Greenday.
Early Life
"music can definitely influence your emotions"
Bulls In The Bronx
" I wrote a great deal of these lyrics after a young fan had explained to me that her boyfriend had just recently died in a car accident. She told me that he held her hand for the first time at one of our shows. She told me that she just wanted to thank us for being part of their lives. This was one of the most shocking and heartbreaking this I'd ever heard. I wrote the song as a gift to her. It's meant to be her boyfriend speaking to her, telling her that he is still watching over her and that he will love her forever" -Vic Fuentes
I Don't Care If You're Contagious
" 'Bulls in the Bronx' was inspired by..a while back some kids from Australia sent me a message saying that their best friend who was a big fan has recently committed suicide and it was due to alot of things but i know she was bullied alot in school and you know she had no confidence in herself. They actually sent me a link to a video like saying goodbye and a message that she did, was like the most horrible haunting thing I've ever seen and it was just like this beautiful sixteen year old girl saying stuff like you know she's so ugly and she can't handle all the pressure, she can't handle it all anymore and you know it just really breaks my heart just to see people like that. So if you have any problems with bullying, there's plenty of places to go and reach out, people can help you out and even if you want, this song 'Bulls In The Bronx' may help you out. Just know that as long as you give things rime, as long as you wait things out, things wont be bad forever i promise you, so it's gonna be okay. "
-Vic Fuentes
Your lyrics are special. They’re heartfelt—intense even. From where do you draw inspiration?
"The [lyrics on this] record came from a lot of different places. Some of the songs were inspired by relationships. Others were inspired by intense things that have happened. My ex-girlfriend was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was the inspiration for some of the lyrics of “A Match In The Water.” It’s dedicated to her and all the crazy stuff she went through in chemotherapy and fighting the disease. That song was a gift to her."
Vic's Brother
Vic's brother Frank was also battling with cancer, but on February 14, 2013 he posted on his twitter and Instagram, "He's fought in many countries, but nothing prepared him for the 6 month battle he just WON!! As of today..."
"I always have a picture in my head of what i want. i will literally do anything to make it happen. i will kill myself, i will run myself to the ground to make it happen how i want it to happen"

I chose Vic Fuentes because he is such an amazing person and inspiration to me, and really cares about his fans. He is mexican and makes me feel proud of my race even more. I can relate to his music and it says everything i feel, they make me happy when I'm at my lowest. I learned alot of new things about him in this research and grew more appreciation and respect towards him . Everyday I fall more and more in love with this man. People say "oh its just a band and a man who screams on stage" but he is so much more to me. Words cant even explain. Hopefully someday I get a chance to go to a Pierce The Veil show and meet them personally, but until then I'll be listening to them through my ipod.
Pierce The Veil loves animals and supports PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and other organizations to help animals like the Fur Is Dead campaign and Elephants Never Forget.

Vic's Early Years
"I myself have dealt with self harm. I was young and alone and i got beat up all the time and I cut to ease the pain. i realized I wasn't the only thing hurt when I cut. I found to wait it out, that it gets better. I wrote music instead of going to the blade. I found that my little brother, Mike, looked up to me and I wanted to change for him."
