Public Arts Master Plan
design by Dóri Sirály for Prezi
Al Quoz
Although Al Quoz does not exactly hold the usual Dubai glamour, with cement factories, warehouses and extreme dust, it is here where the local Dubai art scene took hold.

Al Quoz, holds many of the attributes of successful neighborhood artistic transformation projects around the world. This makes Al Quoz a high potential area to form the arts district of Dubai.
What is Public Art?
Public art is visible and accessible to the general public. It
may be permanently incorporated within the fabric, design,
or fixtures of a building or place, or be a temporary project
such as art installations and events.

The Arts District
Kick start!
The Arts District provides a positive image, beautifies and animates the area and provides marketing and programming opportunities to enhance businesses, attract visitors and improve the quality of life for all
residents. By building on community assets, the District promotes community, cultural and economic development that expands business and cultural institutions, promotes diversity, increases employment, attracts creative individuals, increases housing, enhances property values
Cities gain
value through public art –
cultural, social, and economic value
. Public art is a
distinguishing part of our
public history
and our evolving culture. It reflects and reveals our society,
adds meaning to our cities and uniqueness to our communities. Public art
humanizes the built
environment
and invigorates public spaces. It provides an intersection between past, present and
future, between disciplines, and between ideas. Public art is freely accessible.

Why Public Art Matters?
The development of the art scene in Dubai is market driven; it is not part of a top-down strategy to develop or acquire culture, as in most other countries in the Gulf, nor is it the result of a long-term local development.

The arts are an important policy asset and prosperity generator for cities. In addition to their inherent value to society, the arts offer a distinctive blend of benefits, including:

• ECONOMIC DRIVERS:
The arts create jobs and contribute to the economy of the city. A strong arts sector is an economic asset that stimulates business activity, attracts tourism revenue, retains a high quality work force and stabilizes property values.
• EDUCATIONAL ASSETS:
The arts foster young imaginations and facilitate children’s success in
school. They provide the critical thinking, communications and innovation skills essential to a
productive 21st-century work force.
• CULTURAL LEGACIES:
The arts preserve unique culture and heritage, passing a state’s
precious cultural character and traditions along to future generations.

The arts create a welcoming sense of place and a desirable quality of life.
