Testing Meeting
ITBS
Iowa Assessments Core includes all tests
except Science and Social Studies.
Iowa Assessments Complete assesses student achievement in Reading, Written Expression, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language (Vocabulary, Spelling, Capitalization, and Punctuation), and Computation. Level 9 also includes assessments of Word Analysis and
Listening.
Each test begins with one or more sample questions to give students practice with the content
and format of the test.
All questions are in multiple-choice format. Students mark their answer choices on their
answer folders by filling in a circle for each question.

Copying of (by machine or in handwriting) or verbal communication about test content
Contamination of the test environment due to visible teaching aids
Teachers assisting students with responses
Test session disruption
Student cheating
Students working ahead or looking back in a section
Students marking in the wrong section
(more than 1 mark in the wrong section = Irregulatiry…MONITOR!!)
EXAMPLES OF TESTING IRREGULARITIES
Account for all testing materials at all times
Offer/attend training for each test administration
Ensure that directions are followed exactly as stated in the manual
Monitor students at all times during testing
Ensure test security at all times
Ensure test confidentiality at all times
Work together as a team to ensure that testing protocols are followed
WHAT CAN WE DO TO PREVENT IRREGULARITIES?


Test results will arrive in December/January.

ITBS score reports/labels are provided. Results should be shared at parent conferences in February.
TEST RESULTS
It is the responsibility of all personnel in the school system to follow protocol as they become aware of testing irregularities. Report to Heidi immediately!

Only students with an IEP, 504 or TPP may receive testing accommodations.

Students may not use privacy folders, pencil grips, special lighting, food, music, etc. (if it is not standard for every child in the state…you can’t do it)
TESTING IRREGULARITIES
No calculators or word-to-word translators(unless indicated in the TPP) may be used.

Scratch paper will be provided for each subtest. The same sheet may be used for multiple subtests. It must be collected and returned with other testing materials. Students should write their names and the date in the upper right hand corner on the scratch paper. Give each student 2 sheets of scratch paper even if they don’t use it.

Test administrator and/or proctor need to monitor students at all times-no sitting, grading papers, visiting, etc., please. A quick scan of the class should be done in first 2 minutes of testing!
SPECIFIC TEST INFORMATION


Case managers will bubble in the State Required Codes in the “Test Administrator Use Only” section in column G. (Some may have been done during CogAT)
LABELS
Each class has a proctor.

Proctors will monitor test administration and hallways.

Proctors will ensure that the school environment is conducive for testing.

Proctors report any irregularities to TC.
PROCTORS
No cell phones, PDAs, or other electronic devices can be on in the exam room.

Keep a timing devise to keep track of time during test administration.

Record times on sticky note…do not write in examiner’s manuals.

Ensure all students have an equal opportunity to participate in the assessment

Follow all testing procedures
WHAT IS A TEACHER’S RESPONSIBILITY?
Examiners will count and verify test materials each morning.

Administrators will count and verify test materials when returned to testing room.

Failure to safeguard test materials or to comply with test administration procedures could adversely affect an individual’s certification status.
TEST SECURITY

Never leave test unattended. They should be with you at ALL times!!!

Testing conditions should be designed to minimize the potential sharing of answers between students.

Please follow daily reminder/procedure sheet for turn-in organization, etc.

Students should use No. 2 soft lead pencils with erasers (we will provide these for you). Please keep pencils in your room until testing is complete.

Please do not allow students to use mechanical pencils.

Late students will remain in the media center until testing is completed.

Specific test directions are provided in the examiner’s manual and must be followed exactly to ensure a standard administration.

3rd and 5th grade students will bubble their answers on the same answer document used for CogAT. All subtests are timed.
TEST ADMINISTRATION
All instances of sharing answers and testing irregularities must be reported immediately to an administrator.
If an answer document or test booklet needs to be voided, please let me know immediately.
All administrators must certify all procedures were followed correctly after each standardized test.
Never leave your test tub!!!! 

Tests will remain locked in the testing room when not checked out to examiners.

Test administrators are held accountable for Student Test booklets, Answer Documents, and Test Examiner’s Manual (please don’t write in the Examiner’s Manual)

All test materials must be returned to the testing room immediately following each day’s test session.

Cover any materials that could assist students on test.
Read the Examiner’s Manual thoroughly before testing. Do NOT mark in the manual…use sticky notes.
