I chose to do the math of ballet for my project
because its what i do every day.
I have been in ballet since i was four years old,
and now i teach it to kids who are round that age. Speed Pirouettes are turns of the body. A single pirouette is a full 360 degree rotation. A double pirouette rotates twice.
A double or triple turn should be completed in the same amount of time as a single turn would be completed in. This means a dancer must double or triple the SPEED of the turn to keep in the same time or else she/he will be off timing with the rest. The name ballet is french, but originated in the italian renaissance in the 15th century.
Noblemen and women were treated to lavish events, like wedding celebrations, where dancing and music created an elaborate spectacle.
Dancing masters taught the steps to the nobility, and the court participated in the performances.
In the 16th century, Catherine de Medici, an Italian noblewoman, began to fund ballet in the French court. It encouraged the growth of ballet, dance, decor, costumes, song, music and poetry.
Ballet's style throughout the years have changed and adapted, however the technique has stayed somewhat the same. Tendus are when you point your foot and extend your leg to either the front, side or the back. (making a cross)
If you are doing an EVEN number of tendus, cross in the front of your other leg first.
If you are doing an ODD number, cross in the back first.
so say you had to do 4 tendus in a cross where would you close your foot after the first tendu to the side? Odd or Even Half Time In dance, if a movement is done in half time, the amount of time has been cut in half.
This means a dancer can complete the movement twice in the same length of time as when the movement was at it’s regular speed. Angles Many dance exercises have precise
specifications regarding the
angle of the legs. when doing
developpes and battements of the leg you
need to have an understanding of angles.
obviously we cant always hit the exact
angle, because were human, but we aim
for that height so every dancer is at
roughly the same heigh.t 45 degree angle 90 degree angle 180 degree angle you would close to the back after the first tendu to the side. (front-close front, side-close back, back-close back, side-close front) Fun Facts 1. A Male dancer lifts over one and a half tonnes worth of ballerinas during performances
2. Most ballerinas wear out 2-3 pairs of pointe shoes per week
3. One tutu costs up to 1076pounds to make
4. That same tutu requires 60-90 hours of labour and 100yards of ruffle!
5. A three-hour ballet performance is roughly equivalent to two 90-minute soccer games back to back or running 18 miles.
6. Pointe shoes add a minimum of 7 inches of new height to a dancer.
7. A prima ballerina can complete 32 fouette turns, while staying in the exact same spot on the floor. After the turns, her pointe shoe tip is HOT to the touch and it is so worn out that it is used then only for rehearsal.
