Prop 8 took the validity away from the 18,000 marriages that had occurred in California before Prop 8 was passed.
By gay people not being able to marry in California, they were unable to feel equal with straight couples.
Bouska was born on Halloween, October 31, of the year 1983 in Decatur, Illinois.

Being gay has never been accepted, and working to improve equality for gay people has been going on since the early 1920s.
Gay marriage was not legal in any states in the US until 2000 when Vermont passed a bill legalizing gay marriage.
In 2008 states like New York, Oregon, and California began to recognize same sex marriage, but still did not legalize it.
Proposition 8 took away the right for gay marriage, only in California, but it affected other states as well.
The Start of
By including these famous people it brings more awareness to the gay rights/gay marriage cause.
Celebrities and NOH8
If not for the NOH8 campaign and Adam Bouska's efforts, gay marriage laws may not have changed the lives of so many gay people.
The human cost of indifference towards a cause like this can include self harm/suicide, depression, and being uncomfortable in your own body.
Consequences of Inaction
In direct response to Prop 8, Bouska and his partner, Jeff Parshley, founded the NOH8 campaign in November 2008.
The NOH8 campaign highlighted famous people and others to bring awareness to the overturn of this ban against same sex marriage.
By April 2009, the campaign already had support from gay and straight celebrities such as Leslie Jordan, Shanna Moakler, and RichGirl.
