Transcript of Atlanta Campaign

by Ramisa Murshed Atlanta Campaign The Union had its eye on Atlanta, the South's last transportation center. Sherman's goal soon became to capture this important city. Johnston's strategy was to slow Sherman down by destroying bridges and railroads before Sherman could use them. Johnston is replaced by John B. Hood as Confederate general.
Hood's and Sherman's forces battled until the end of August when Hood was pushed into retreat. He destroyed military forces as he left. Sherman telegrams President Lincoln, "Atlanta is ours and fairly won." He occupies Atlanta until beginning his March to the Sea. What effect did the Atlanta Campaign have on the South? The Atlanta Campaign was a series
of battles in the Civil war fought
from May 1 to September 2, 1864.
