Ancient and Modern Olympics EQ:
How do the early Olympics compare to the Olympic Games today? Standard: Identify the influence
of the Olympic Games. Video The first was over 2,700 years ago in the year of 776 BC
The first Olympics were held in Greece.
Only men were allowed to compete in competitions and watch. Women were not allowed to compete or come to the Olympics.
Only men from Greece were allowed to compete in the Olympic games.
The Olympics are held every 4 years. (Olympiad) Ancient Olympics History The moto for the Olympics is: Citius—Altius—Fortius, which means "faster, higher, stronger." in Latin. It is used to remind the athletes to focus on becoming better not focus on winning.

These 6 colors are found on every national flag in the world. It symbolizes athletes coming together from all over the world to compete.

In Ancient Olympics there was only one winner and they received a wreath of Olive branches that was placed on their head. Awards of the ancient Olympics The Ancient Olympics came to an end in he year 393 AD.
They ended because the Christian emperor (Theodosius the Great) outlawed it, making it illegal.
He made it illegal because he felt that they were worshiping idols more than they were competing in sports. Why the ancient Olympics ended The Modern Olympics were revived by a man named Pierre de Coubertin.
Different countries were starting to compete with each other in writing, art, and even sports and he felt the world need a time and place that everyone could come together and compete.
The first Modern Olympics were held in the year 1896 in Athens, Greece, as a reminder to everyone of where the Olympics actually started.
With the Modern Olympics both men and women are allowed to compete in the events.
