Social media's effect on society continues to grow as technology advances, but even though social media's influence has many benefits, the overall effect is deteriorating our society.

What is the effect?
The effect of social media has caused various types of issues. Cyberbullying, privacy concerns, depression, suicide, harassment, obsession, distraction, and self consciousness are just some of the problems created because of social media. The rate of these problems has been increasing over these past few years, because the number of users of these social networking sites has been increasing.
How is society affected?
Social media enables the spread of unreliable and false information.
Social networking sites lack privacy and expose users to government and corporate intrusions.
Social networking sites can lead to stress and offline personal relationship problems.
Social networking cites waste people's time and effect their lives (ex: students get lower grades).
Using social media can harm job stability and employment expectations.
The use of social networking sites is associated with personality and brain disorders, such as the inability to have in-person conversations, ADHD, and self-centered personalities, as well as addictive behaviors.
Criminals use social media to commit and promote crimes(gangs).
Children may endanger themselves by not understanding the public and viral nature of social networking sites.
Social media posts cannot be completely deleted and all information posted can have unintended consequences.
Social networking site users are vulnerable to security attacks such as hacking, identity theft, and viruses.
Social media cannot be put to an end,however,it can be improved.
Spreading awareness of the harms of social media is the first step in improving social networking sites. Our society needs to work together to set up reliable and safe social networking sites, in order to ensure our safety and success.
What is the purpose of social networking sites?
Social networking sites allow people to:
Globally interact with others
Connect with friends and family
Promote business
Disseminate information
Stay up to date about recent events
Students who used social networking sites while studying scored 20% lower on tests and students who used social media had an average GPA of 3.06 versus non-users who had an average GPA of 3.82.
