Don Martin de Leon Location of colony: Located by what major towns: De leon’s colony is in Victoria,TX.
Victoria, TX had pasture land which, was great for animals to graze on. Also,The land was great for farming many different types of vegetables. They had a lot of cattle and livestock too! The property was just perfect with our rivers nearby! Located by what rivers: We have three rivers that come near our colony these rivers are called Guadalupe River, Lavaca River, and San Antonio River.
These rivers are all fresh water rivers which was perfect for the use of fishing, livestock to drink from and water the vegetables. •Some major towns located by the colony of Victoria Texas are Indianola,Texana, and Goliad.
•Indianola was a gateway port for travelers coming in. Also, it was great for fishing.
•Texana was also a gateway port and was great for fishing.
•Goliad was known for cattle ranching. How Many Families will be settled? •In 1835, he had gotten 162 families to live there! Are you going to be the 163?! Best qualities of your colony: A really great thing about our colony is that we have great well water to drink from! We also, have great farm land for growing our vegetables! We have plenty of cattle ranching which, provides food and clothing. The rivers provides water for the cattle and vegetables. How much land will each family receive: •Each family received 177 acres of land to farm. Each family received a sitio (4,428) acres of land for raising livestock. How much does the land cost? The land cost 12 and a half cents per acre. Some or all of the requirements that settlers must meet: •If you come to our colony you will be an mexican citizen because Texas use to be Mexico in 1824.
•We want you to become a Roman Catholic. •Patricia De Leon donated $9,800 plus she gave $300 in cattle,horses, and mules. Interesting facts: •Don Martin De Leon was born in burgos mexico in 1765
•The name of his parents were Don Bernando De León and Madame María Galvan.
•Martin was a man of extreme military bearing.
•A great thing about Don Martin De Leon is that he was a mexican empresario so, he didn’t get a certain numbers of families he had to bring to his colony so, he got a lot of time. Also, he was friends with the mexican government so he could bring mexicans to Texas.
•The colony is called Guadalupe Victoria and, is located in Victoria, Texas.
