How long did the party last?
Finding Elapsed Time
Problem
David and Julie went to a concert in the park. The concert in the park started at 11:15 am and ended at 1:50 pm. How long did the concert last?
Step 1- Create a T-Chart
Create a T-Chart with the start time on the left side and
the end time on the right side.
Step 2 - Add Hours To The Start Time
Step 3- Add The Minutes
Elapsed Time
is the total amount of time that passes from the starting time to the ending time.

Follow these steps to find the elapsed time.

* Note that if we added another hour we would be at 2:15 which is past the end time.
Add minutes to the time.
Begin by adding 10 minutes at a time.
Again be careful not to pass the End Time
If you are close then add 5 min. or 1 min. at a time.
Stop when you reach the end time.
Record the minutes in the bank.
Add 1 hour at a time.
Be careful not to pass the end time.
Record each hour.
In the bank on the right side of the T-chart
