Examine the News
A Great Day
Who can tell us of a great day that he/she has experienced recently?
What does a great day for you look like?
The Gospel
What do you think Paul meant when he said, "I am not ashamed of the gospel?"
“The good news of salvation proclaimed by the prophets, angels, Christ and his church through the ages.” (Daniel Meyer, WE, 17.)
Salvation
Romans 1:16, For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes . . .
God Space
“When the good news about Jesus is preached, God’s own power is unleashed. That power is capable of “saving” anyone.” (Moo, Encountering the Book of Romans, 44)
Salvation History
Creation
Fall
God, the creator, walks with his people
the good life was not good enough
- not ashamed; eager to share the gospel
- a message with power that brings people to salvation
- the gracious action of
God in Jesus Christ
Salvation is . . .
- sparing human beings
the penalty due upon sin
- being made right with God
- become full heirs of all his
promises through the
merit of Christ alone.
(WE, 17)
- salvation: saved
from
sin and death;
- salvation: saved
to
restored fellowship with God;
- salvation: is accomplished only when God has
finished his work for us at the end of history
Immediate Consequences
banished from the garden; brought division; decay and death entered the world;
Eternal Consequences
being without God forever
Amazing grace
he came to us, gave his life for us and offered us new life
Our ultimate aim as witness is to help people see that they can begin a new relationship with God.
Although we have the best news (gospel) to share, we sometimes miss the opportunity. What may hinder a spiritual conversation from their side, not our side?
Matt. 13:44-46

More Kingdom Principles
Group A: The mustard seed and the leaven
(Matt 13: 31-33)
Group B: The parable of the hidden treasure and the
parable of the pearl of great value
(Matt 13:44-46)
Matt 13:31-33
- start small, plant seeds and watch them grow
- yeast needs to get into the flour; once it's in
there you can't sort it back out
- Kingdom work is typically most recognizable by
how small it is (against the flow of culture)
NOT that we might be like the world, but that the world might get to know Jesus who is already the King
