The Classroom Environment Domain 2 2b: Establishing a Culture for Learning Importance of content

Procedures Managing instructional groups, transitions, and materials and supplies Supervision of paras Performance of non-instructional duties Monitoring student behavior Response to misbehavior Arrangement of furniture and use of physical space Write 3 or 4 things that you remember about an effective teacher on post -it notes. Determine which domain these behaviors fall in. Share this with the other teachers at your table. Post on the chart according to the domain it falls under. ACTIVITY ACTIVITY Identify performance levels (1,2,3, or 4) for each paper strip. Activity Review the indicators for establishing a culture for learning. Decide whether each piece of evidence is "relevant" or "not relevant" for the component. Take a few moments to read over your section of Domain 2 in "Enhancing Professional Practice" (pgs 64-76). You may be asked to share about your component during our discussions today. Activity Look at the examples on the sheet you are given. Indicate the level of performance for 2b. Activity A teacher says to a student, "Why don't you try this easier problem?"

A student asks the teacher whether she can redo a piece of work since she now sees how it could be strengthened.

The teacher says, "This idea is really important! It's central to our understanding of history." Activity View the Teachscape video looking for evidence for 2c. Record the evidence you see. Share your evidence with your small group. Give the teacher a performance rating based on the evidence you found. Activity List Unsatisfactory or Basic evidence statements on the sheet provided. Uninformed Activity Look at each of the seven positions that a student comes from when they misbehave. How are these related to some of the other components on the framework? Your group should be specific and prepared to share. Activity With the members of your group role play a classroom scenario that demonstrates the level of performance for Domain 2c the facilitator assigns to you.
