Transcript of The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin

It starts with a dream. Why was the dream so scary? Why was he able to read lips? What if there was a disappearance? What if he was deaf? (Authors love "what if" & "why.") I remembered a deaf classmate from school. I watched some TV. What if the book became a mystery? What if the crime involved
a fancy birthday party? I remembered a trip I took to a
coal mine as a kid. Memories + Other art + Wondering "what if?" A scary dream about a kid spying on the school bus I did some more writing. What if my narrator was loosely
based on him? Wouldn't that be a
spooky place for a mystery? I did some writing. The story took on a life of its own.
