Roaring Twenties and Fashion
Transcript of Roaring Twenties and Fashion
Why the "roaring twenties"?
This was a time period of great prosperity and success in America
Along with the "roaring twenties", this decade was also referred to as the "Jazz Age"
The 20's redefined what it meant to be a woman
"Flappers" were a new kind of women. They wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to Jazz and went to parties, just like the men.
The end of World War I led to many scientific achievements and technological advances. Many new "gadgets" were introduced:
Boyish short hair
Highheels to dance the Charleston
Women dressed like this in late 1800's and early 1900's (Victorian Fashion):
Very tight Corsets
Portable photographic cameras
To understand better the 1920's there are some movies and books you can watch and read
The Great Gatsby is considered to be one of the best books in universal literature.
The author - F. Scott Fitzgerald - can be seen in another movie:
Midnight in Paris
curled wavy hair
D. H. Lawrence
And... what about the men?
Any significant differences?
