Lincoln met with his cabinet on September 22nd 1862 to sign the Emancipation Proclamation . It set the abolition of slavery and launched The American Civil War. Abraham Lincolm was assassinated by Booth,a Confederate sympathizer vehement in his denunciation of the Lincoln Administration and outraged by the South's defeat in the American Civil War. He was in the Ford's theatre when Booth crept up behind him and aimed a single-shot in his head . An army surgeon, Doctor Charles Leale, initially assessed Lincoln's wound as mortal. The President was taken across the street from the theater to the Petersen House, where he lay in a coma for nine hours before dying. Mount Rushmore National Memorial, near Keystone, South Dakota, is a monumental granite sculpture by Gutzon Borglum (1867–1941), located within the United States Presidential Memorial that represents the main presidents. Abraham Lincoln is on the right. The Lincoln Memorial is an American memorial built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. He was made by Henry Bacon. The building is in the form of a Greek Doric temple and contains a large seated sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln. The memorial has been the site of many famous speeches, including Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech . Coins of the United States dollar
