Geography and Map Skills By:Carson Ergle Continents- the seven large bodies of land. Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Hemisphere- half of the globe Equator- an imaginary line that lies halfway between the North and South Pole. Cardinal Directions- the main directions; north east south and west Compass Rose- a small drawing on a map that can help you find directions. Intermediate Direction- the in- between distance noted by spikes on the compass rose. Ex: south east Symbol- something that stands for something else Map Key- gives the meaning of each symbol used on the map Scale- shows the relationship between distance on a map and real distance. Locator- a small map set onto the main map
