Transcript of Chief Diplomat
When Roosevelt was president, he met with Churchill for the first time in August of 1941.
Their meeting was responsible for the Atlantic Charter which defined the goals of Britain and the United States throughout World War II.
In 2013, President Barack Obama met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss their disagreements on military intervention in Syria.
In conclusion, the two leaders agreed to have their foreign ministers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary of State John Kerry, discuss the issue with each other.
The president decides what American diplomats and ambassadors should say to foreign governments.
He/she also makes the foreign policy of the United States.
Another example of a president taking on the role as Chief Diplomat was when Jimmy Carter accomplished the peace settlement for the Palestinian people in 1978.
