Teaching Keyboarding Why should scholars learn to touch type? Touch Typing = Speed & Accuracy 2x the speed of handwriting
or "hunt and peck" typing Less wear and tear on fingers. Touch typists don't think about the keyboard, they think about their thoughts. Enables scholars to use the computer for creating products. How did you learn to type? Touch typing is a prerequisite skill for learning and working in the 21st Century. Objectives Describe the importance of touch-typing. Name the goals and requirements for my scholars. Explain how to monitor scholars and support their progress. Teacher Log-in Open your Firefox web-browser to Learning.com Enter Username*: FirstnameLastname

For 1st log in, enter District: Success Academy Follow these steps to turn-off pop-up blocker for Learning.com From the Firefox menu, select Preferences
Select Content
Next to Block Pop-up Windows, select Exceptions

Select Allow Scholar’s POV After listening to an introduction from the program’s guide, Miko, scholars should select PRACTICES, then LIBRARY, and then STORY CHALLENGES, where they can complete the diagnostic typing assessment, called "THE MOUSE'S PLAN." Scholar POV After the scholar completes the STORY CHALLENGE they should close the window. The next section they complete should be Home Row, where they will begin to learn finger placement. Lesson Sequence Scholars should progress through the program in the following order:
Prescriptive Keyboarding (3-5)
Story Challenge (Diagnostic)
Keyboarding (Computer Basics)
Prescriptive Keyboarding (3-5)
Suggested Practices
Story Challenges Resources Reminders

Use for at least 40 min 4x week
Make sure scholars complete “Story Challenge” diagnostic before moving forward
